Seniors: The Junior Championship Final between Na Gaeil and Glenbeigh/Glencar wil take place on Sunday October 16th. It will be a curtain raiser to the senior final.  The venue has yet to be decided.

Honouring the Victors: Na Gaeil Clubhouse was packed to the rafters on Friday night to acknowledge the achievements of some of our talented young players during the year.

Our three Kerry Minors Diarmuid O’Connor, Stefan Okunbor and Ryan O’Neill brought the Tommy Markham Cup along much to the delight of their young fans. Kerry Minor Hurler Niall O’Mahony brought along the All Ireland Minor Hurling Cup and Andrew Barry was present with the All Ireland Junior Cup.

These lads are a credit to their club and to their families. This was evident in the amount of time they spent talking to their young fans, posing for photographs and signing autographs for them. What better role models could you have for the young up and coming players of Na Gaeil.

The club was delighted to acknowledge the achievements of all these lads on the playing fields during the year. Photographs of the three minor footballers were unveiled in the clubhouse and Chairperson Tim Lynch made a special presentation to Diarmuid, Stefan, Ryan, Niall, and Andrew. A presentation was also made to Jack Barry to acknowledge his great year on the college playing fields winning a Sigerson Cup Medal with UCD.

Club chairperson Tim Lynch Senior paid tribute to all the underage coaches and mentors who played a big part in moulding these lads into the players that they are today. Juvenile chairperson Tim Lynch Junior made the point that their success did not happen by accident. It was down to boys’ enthusiasm, commitment and total dedication to the game and to the wonderful underage structure that exists in the club over so many years

It was delightful to see former Kerry star of the fifties Dr. Seán Murphy present on the night. He said he was delighted to see the boys play football as it should be played and that the display of the Kerry Minors in the All Ireland Football Semi Final against Kildare was one of the best displays by a Kerry Team in over thirty years.

It was indeed a great night which was thoroughly enjoyed by all present. A big thank you to the bar staff and to the kitchen staff for the delicious food they served on the night.

U 10   Well done to all our boys who travelled to Keel last Sunday to play their under 10 team in a challenge game. It was another good test for our lads. Training continues next Thursday evening at 6.30pm. We’re due to host Cordal next Sunday in Killeen so hopefully we’ll have a good turnout of players for that. Please ensure you bring water and your mouth guard.

U 8    We had another enjoyable morning’s football hosted by Keel on Sunday last. We are planning to organise two more challenge games before the end of the season. Next Sunday we plan to have a challenge game against St Pat’s. Mentors will send out a text during the week confirming final arrangements. Our final game of the season will be against Keel at Na Gaeil on Sunday 16th.

U 6    Our under 6 boys and girls visited Stacks on Sunday last to produce another great display of football! Once again we fielded three teams to ensure all players got quality ball time! Well done all!

Na Gaeil Ladies      Na Gaeil v Finuge/St Senans, U15 County Championship Semi Final

We played in Na Gaeil on Sunday evening against a strong physical Finuge/St Senans team. We are a very young team playing U15 but Captains Clodagh and Ria lead the team superbly on Sunday evening. We had the perfect start with Brid getting an early fisted goal. Mary followed up with 2 points after some fine work from Caragh, Muire and Eimear. Emily set up Abi for a point. Finuge/St Senans were picking off points as Megan, Ria, Sophie and Isabelle kept the back line tight allowing no run into the goals. Aine made a great one on one save just before half time. We had a 4 point lead at half time. Finuge/St Senans came out at half time and rattled us scoring 3 very early goals. But we dug down deep and made a great comeback, with Kayleigh Murphy coming into the backs alongside Dearbhla, Sarah and Freya.  With goals from Caragh, Dearbhla and Brid, points from Sarah, Caragh, Eimear and Mary, we controlled the rest of the game with Ailbhe and Kayleigh helping the forwards to hold possession. This was another exciting game and we can look forward to a final against Austin Stacks this weekend. Final Score 4.08 to 3.06
