Junior Final All roads lead to Fitzgerald Stadium in Killarney this Sunday October 16th for the Premier Junior County Final between Na Gaeil and Glenbeigh/Glencar. Throw in time is 1.30pm.

It promises to be a cracking game and we are asking everybody connected with the club to come out and support the team on Sunday. It is a great occasion for all our senior players and your support is vital.

Wear your club colours and bring your flags and banners. The senior county final between Dr. Crokes and Kenmare District will be directly after the junior game.

U 14 Boys Na Gaeil U 14’s played Ballymac in the Town Board Division Two last Sunday in fantastic conditions in Caherslee. Na Gaeil had a number of early scoring chances, which they failed to convert.

Ballymac took advantages of these misses and scored a goal and two points to open an early lead. Na Gaeil soon settled into the game and were level after twelve minutes. Ballymac soon regained the lead but two unanswered points meant that Na Gaeil were leading after twenty two minutes.

However, the game changed in the closing ten minutes of the half, when Ballymac took total control and scored three goals and three points without reply to open a substantial lead. Na Gaeil gave themselves hope with a goal on the stroke of half time to leave the score Na Gaeil 2-4 Ballymac 4-6 at the interval.

Na Gaeil needed a good start to the second half but Ballymac opened the scoring with an early point before Na Gaeil replied with a point from their next attack. Na Gaeil needed the next score to get back into the game but Ballymac struck for their fifth goal to extend their lead.

Na Gaeil hit back with two further points to leave the score Na Gaeil 2-7, Ballymac 5-8 after fifteen minutes of the second half. Goals win games and Ballymac struck again with their second goal of the half to go further ahead.

However, the Na Gaeil youngsters refused to give up and clawed their way back into the game scoring two goals and a point to leave only two scores between the teams as the game entered the final five minutes.

Na Gaeil went in search of further scores but were caught on the break and another goal and a point make the game safe for Ballymac. Na Gaeil got the last score of the game to leave the final score Na Gaeil 4-9, Ballymac 7-9.

While it is disappointing to lose a final, this team should be very proud of their achievements this year. They won the County league in May and followed this up by winning the St Brendan’ league in June and completed the Brendan’s double with victory in the St Brendan’s championship in September.

In addition, a number of this panel were part of the successful U13 team in the annual Lee Strand tournament. They also reached the semi-final of the Central Region Division One league and had a great experience competing in Feile.

We started training in early February and attendance was excellent throughout the year so a big thanks to the entire panel for the commitment and performances during the season enjoy the break and hopefully you will all return refreshed next year for another successful year.

Also a big thanks to all the parents and supporters. We had great support at all our games (nearly 30 games) throughout the year and this support drove the team on in tight games.

We also got great help throughout the year from the ground staff and the team in the clubhouse who looked after the team and visitors during the year. Thanks to all the mentors involved with the team and hope, they will also enjoy the break and come back refreshed next year.

Na Gaeil Ladies Na Gaeil v Austin Stacks, U15B County Championship Final

We played the final in St Pats on Sunday evening. Stacks started the brightest and quickest scoring a dubious 1st goal. Stacks scored another quick goal and a couple of points. Brid scored a goal but it was disallowed for some reason.

We scored our 1st point and followed quickly with another 2 points. Stacks went through and scored another goal before half time.

We came in at half time 9 points down but we pulled ourselves together and came out in the 2nd half with Abi scoring 2 early goals and points from Mary and Ciara, followed by another goal from Brid. We had pulled the game back to 2 points but the Ref gave Stacks  a penalty and despite our 2nd half performance, that goal killed the game.

We can be proud of our 2nd half play . Well done to all players on a great Championship run and to our support on the sidelines.
