Seniors    Na Gaeil Seniors will play Fossa in the County League Division Four play-off game in Milltown at 2.30pm on Sunday next November 13th. Both teams have been promoted to Division Three for next year. This game decides who goes up as outright winners of Division Four. Come out and support the team for the last game of the season.

U 14 Ladies     What a season the girls have had starting back in March and still playing in November!  Well done to all the girls for their dedication. The improvement in all the girls is plain to see with their performances throughout the year.  We had our final game in the North Kerry League last Thursday with a home game against Finuge/St.Senan’s who were joint table toppers with Na Gaeil.

This was always going to be a big game and captains on the day, Caragh O’Neill and Dearbhla Quirke, led by example.  The visitors settled quicker and got a couple of early scores.  Na Gaeil began to settle and Mary O’Connell in mid-field made a few darting runs and got the score board ticking over with 1-1 from play and 1-1 from frees.

The visitors still had the upper hand and only for some fine saves from Aine O’Sullivan in goal and strong defending by the full back line of Megan Fernane, Sophie Lowham and Isabelle Crowe we would have been in deeper trouble.  Our half backs got more into the game and were bringing the ball out of defence more regularly and the link up play between Eimear O’Sullivan, Sarah Barrett and Freya O’Connor was a delight to behold.

Kayleigh Murphy came on from the bench and helped shore up the defence cutting out the ball before it got to her marker on numerous occasions.

Dearbhla and Mary were holding their own in midfield but it was a tough battle as the Finuge/St.Senan’s midfield pairing  very strong.  Our youngest player, Siena Lucey, came on in the forwards just before halftime and was making some great moves into space before getting onto a long pass and finishing it in the back of the net.  Halftime – Finuge/St.Senan’s 3-3 Na Gaeil 3-2.

The girls knew they could do better in the second half and with some constructive comments from Eddie and Troy at halftime, the girls went back out with renewed determination!

From the off the home side began to play more confidently and with the half forwards, Abi Casey, Muire Kingston and Caragh getting more ball we were cutting through the visitor’s defence more often. Caragh got a lovely point from play.

The full forward line were coming more into it and both corner forwards Kayleigh Costello and Emma Savage scoring a goal each following some nice inter play with Emily Crowe.  Ciara De Rath and Brid Sinott added a point each.  The home defence was impenetrable by now and no matter how hard the visitors tried to attack they could not break through.

The teamwork was outstanding and it shows what happens when the players work for each other.   Na Gaeil was well on top in the closing ten minutes and Muire Kingston and Mary added another goal each and centre forward Abi getting the final score, a point from play. Final Score: Na Gaeil 8-6 Finuge/St.Senan’s 3-3.

A big thank you to the Finuge/St.Senan’s team who played the match in great spirit and had they a few subs to bring on to give some of their players a rest, the result might have been different.  Maurice McNamara from the North Kerry board presented the trophy to Dearbhla and Caragh.  Congratulations girls and well deserved!
