Na GaeilNA GAEIL SENIOR: Na Gaeil faced Templenoe in the junior championship. In what was always going to be a difficult assignment having to play away didn’t help.

Templenoe got of to a flying start start scoring 01-03 in the opening few minutes before Kieran O’Donovan got Na Gaeil’s opening score. Despite enjoying an equal share of possession Na Gaeil never got going, with Darragh Carmody converting a free mid way through the half for our last score of the half. Templenoe 01-09; Na Gaeil 00-02.

Just as in the first half Templenoe killed off any chance of a come back with a quick succession of points.

Na Gaeil  tried hard for goals but with the exception of Mike Griffin Templenoe with numbers in defence held firm. Templenoe 01-18; Na Gaeil 01-02.

NA GAEIL U14:Na Gaeil travelled to Galluras to play An Ghaeltacht in the county league lastWednesday evening.

The visitors had a dream start scoring two goals in the opening minutes. Liam Rice was first on the score sheet and Dale Healy followed up minutes with Na Gaeil’s second goal.

Darragh Reen extended Na Gaeil’s lead on the fifth minute with a well taken point. Na Gaeil didn’t get another score for fifteen minutes as An Ghaeltacht recovered from the early set back and got back into the game.

They scored three points in a row to reduce the deficit and then scored three unanswered goals to open a five point lead. Na Gaeil made a number of personnel and positional changes and were rewarded with points from Jack Bourke and Devon Burns.

The home side continued to attack and Cian Devine had to make a double save to keep Na Gaeil in the game, He made another fine save minutes later but An Ghaeltacht extended their lead with another point.

Na Gaeil struck back when Liam Rice scored his second goal of the match but this was cancelled out minutes later when An Ghaeltacht struck for their fourth goal of the half. This was the last score of the first period and the home side lead by 4-4 to 3-3 at half time.

Na Gaeil started the second half in the same manner as the first when Mathew Burke scored two goals in the opening minutes, the second goal hitting the top corner of the net. An Ghaeltacht replied with their first point of the half on the fifth minute.

This would prove to be their last score until the final minute of the game as the Na Gaeil backs began to dominate their opponents.

Ruri O’Sullivan, Edna O’Connor and Adam Burke won a lot of possession in the back line and set up a number of attacks. The Na Gaeil forwards made good use of the possession and began to trouble the Ghaeltacht back line. Points from Devon Burns (4), Dale Healy and Tadgh Lynch (2) extended Na Gaeil’s lead.

An Ghaeltacht fought back in the closing minutes but the Na Gaeil backs were determined that no further scores would be conceded and Jack Sheehan, Eoin Cahill and Jimmy O’Sullivan among others ensured that the home side were restricted to one point in the final period of the game, The Final score in Galluras was Na Gaeil 5-10 An Ghaeltacht 4-6.

NA GAEIL U12: NA  Gaeil played host to Laune Rangers last Sunday in Round 2 of the County League. In a very entertaining game Na Gaeil raced ahead in the first half with a succession of superb scores from  Sean O Connor, Graham Sheehy,Edward Sheehy and Peter Walsh all from play before Laune Rangers replied before the half- time whistle with two goals in the space of a minute.

Oisin Mauncell floated a beautiful 45  to  narrow the gap at the break. The second half saw Laune Rangers benefiting from a strong breeze but our back line of Kieran O Connor,Cian O Neill, Peter Walsh and Scott Ryan  kept us in the game with some great blocks.

Again Tadhg Reen was inspirational between the posts.Jamie Fitzgerald put us right back in the mix with a well taken goal in the 15th minute and Edward Sheehy combined with Liam Og Kingston to add three more great points going into injury time.

Unfortunately a last minute free in front of the posts gave the visitors a narrow win in the end.In our second game Laune Rangers took full advantage of the strong breeze in what was otherwise a beautiful summer-like evening.

They raced into an unassailable lead before half time. All credit to the Na Gaeil lads who rallied well in the second half and outscored their counterparts  but were unable to haul back the significant lead built up by Laune Rangers before half time.

A tough game against a strong Laune Rangers team but with the same  effort we showed in the second half we can be confident going into the next game. Well done again to all who played .

Team  : Joshua Roche, Daniel Hendrickson, Conall Clifford, Daniel Fitzgerald, Denis Moriarty, Jack Doyle, Sean O’Connell, Nathan Rodgers, Cillian Murphy, Cian Sheehan, Aaron Delahunty.Training continues Thursday 7 to 8.30.

NA GAEIL U12: Last Sunday we played host to Austin Stacks in Round 3 of the County League. All those who attended witnessed two great games between these neighbouring sides.

In the first game Austin Stacks got off to a blistering start, racing into a six point lead in the opening seven minutes but Na Gaeil never panicked and patiently worked their way back into contention before half time with points from Oisin Mauncell and Edward Sheehy and goals from Graham Sheehy and Jamie Fitzgerald.

The second half saw Na Gaeil flying off the starting blocks with  goals from Kieran O Connor and Edward Sheehy along with a succession of well taken points from all our forward line giving us a slender lead going into injury time but Austin Stacks levelled things at the final whistle with a free to share the points at the end. Again our back four of Cian O Neill, Scott Ryan, Liam Kingston and Peter Walsh gave great cover in defence.

Tadhg Reen  made some great  saves to keep us in the game while Sean O Connor and Cillian Murphy supplied great ball to our inside forwards. Final score. Na Gaeil 5-6, Austin Stacks 2-15.

In the second game, the Na Gaeil boys gave their best performance of the season to date. The players gave a great account of themselves all over the pitch and played with some lovely flowing football.

Excellent improvement was made in our distribution of the ball while good running for position was excellent among the forward line.

The scoreline see-sawed back and forth between the teams with both teams taking the lead at different stages.

While Austin Stacks came out on top at the end of a very entertaining game all the boys can be proud of their performances. Well done to all again. Final Score- Na Gaeil 5-10 , Austin Stacks 5-14.

NA GAEIL U16 Ladies: NA GAEIL v Rathmore Ladies Div 1 County League We played at home on Monday evening against a very strong Rathmore team. We started brightly with early goals from Jadyn and Meagan.

Rathmore came back at us and scored 2 points. 3 points from Jadyn and a point from Kay got us well in front again but Rathmore are a strong team and scored 2 goals late in the 1st half to leave us level at half time, Kay went into goals for the second half with Mary coming into back line with Grainne and Maura.

Sarah, Muireann and Erika were kept busy as Rathmore’s forwards were very strong. Nora and Nessa were winning midfield and with Meagan, Sibeal and Jadyn scoring a few more points, we were playing well, Blaithnaid, Caoimhe and Ciara were unlucky not to a goal apiece as we were dominating possession and play.

Nora made a couple of great runs from midfield and got herself a couple of fine points. Brid and Clodagh came in to the side and were making some great blocks but unfortunately as they say ‘ goals win games’, as we could not take advantage of our possession in front of goal, Rathmore broke strongly and scored 3 late goals for us to be defeated by 3 points.

It was a great performance by our team in which we did not deserve to lose but we can look forward to playing Southern Gaels at home on Thursday at 7.00 in the next round.

NA GAEIL U14 LADIES: We had a home game against Scartaglin last Sunday evening. Conditions were perfect for football and Grainne captained the team.

Both teams were very balanced and there were great battles all over the pitch.  First half goals from Abi (2) and Laoise gave us a one point lead at the break, 3-0 to 1-5. Scartaglin came at us strong in the second half and picked off some nice points.

Things did not go the way of the girls in green with a couple of goal attempts being saved by the Scart keeper.  A couple of late goals by Scart in the dying minutes of the game decided the match with a final scoreline of Na Gaeil 3-1 Scartaglin 3-8.

Well done to the girls for a great effort, a lot of the team had been involved in other sporting activities earlier in the day and playing on the full length pitch is tough going.  We had our best turn out to date and special thanks to the U12s (Sarah, Freya, Muire, Eimear and Ciara) who togged out having already played a match in the morning.

Training continues on Wednesdays 6.30 – 7.30.  Our next game is an away game to Dingle scheduled for 10th May – details to follow.

NA GAEIL U12:A strong second half performance by Na Gaeil under 12s overturned a three point half time deficitOur girls struggled to get to grips with  a dominant mitchels midfield in the first half but Freya O Connor produced a wonderful display in the second half eclipsing the best Mitchel’s player.

This in turn allowed Sarah and Ciara  to come forward in waves, feeding ball in to Muire, Kayleigh and Siena who scored our four second half goals.. Special mention too to our full back line of Eimer, Clodagh and Aoife who mopped up a lot of loose ball at the back and prevented any opposition goals.

Winnie in goals had another solid performance and kept another clean sheet with one spectacular save late in the game.Grace and Ailbhe are turning into very reliable wing backs and kept their markers scoreless.

Siún and Emma, with her arm just out of a cast, worked tirelessly and bravely up front .Winnie in goals had another solid performance and kept another clean sheet with one spectacular save late in the game.

Eimer swept up every loose ball and was well supported by Clodagh and Megan.Na Gaeil started well and surged into an early lead. Emma Dewey is back in form after her broken wrist and nabbed the second goal.

Sarah Barrett has been excellent in her last few games and today she was able to surge up the field scoring 1-1. She is able to do so with Ailbhe and Síle covering her runs. Síle had one great block in the second half that must have broken the morale of the Ballymac girls.Caoilinn called well and helped set up one of the goals.
