Seniors    Na Gaeil faced John Mitchels in the third round of the Brendan’s League in John Mitchels under lights on Friday night.

Na Gaeil were first to draw blood courtesy of Rob Murphy who scored from 14 yards after Jamie Lowham broke the ball favourable to the on rushing wing back. Na Gaeil playing with aid of a slight breeze in the first half enjoyed the majority of possession, with points coming from Darragh Carmody, Ian McCarthy, Diarmaid and Sean Herlihy gave the visitors a healthy lead as half time approached.

However Mitchels finished the half strongly scoring 1-03, to leave two points between the sides at the break.  Mitchels 1-05; Na Gaeil 0-10.

Mitchels as expected with the wind at their backs pressed hard to level the game but were kept at bay with some resolute defending from the Na Gaeil defence.

Both sides traded scores in the opening ten minutes, before Na Gaeil put the game to bed with two quick counter attacks. The first goal involving Seamie O’Neill and Stefan Okunbour, playing one two’s over fifty yards before off loading the ball to Jamie Lowham who coolly finished, driving the ball low and hard into home side’s net.

The second goal came from Ian McCarthy, who was picked out with a forty yard pass from Darragh Carmody to seal the victory for the visitors on a score line of  Na Gaeil 2-14; John Mitchels 1-10.

Na Gaeil v Austin Stacks    Na Gaeil played Austin Stacks in Connolly Park in Round 4 of the Town League on Sunday last. Na Gaeil got off to a flying start and had a goal inside the first minute.

Seamie O’Neill made a good run from midfield and passed the ball to Stefan Okunbor. Stefan tore through the Stacks defence and hit a bullet low and hard to the net. Stacks scored the next two points before Darragh Carmody pointed a free for Na Gaeil.

Stacks scored 1-02 on the trot and then Diarmaid Herlihy fisted one over the bar for Na Gaeil. The home side scored two more points before half time to leave the score at the break Na Gaeil: 1-02; Austin Stacks: 1-06.

Stacks started the second half brightly and had 1-02 on the board before Na Gaeil got out of the traps. But Na Gaeil responded brilliantly and reeled off four great points in a row, two from Darragh Carmody and one each from Dylan Seymour and Seán Herlihy. Stacks put two more points on the board before Jamie Lowham pulled one back for Na Gaeil. Final Score: Na Gaeil: 1-07: Austin Stacks: 2-10.

Na Gaeil Ladies – Paidí Ó Sé Tournament 2017

Na Gaeil Ladies at the Paidí Ó Sé Tournament at the weekend.

We began our preparations for the year playing in the Paidí Ó Sé Tournament. We played against Naomh Aban from Ballyvourney who were a very strong team and got off to a strong start.

Despite winning the 2nd half, we couldn’t claw back the deficit from the 1st half. We played Gowna from Cavan in the 2nd game. There wasn’t much between us and we were leading with 10 minutes to go.

We couldn’t hold on mainly due to tiredness, with having to play 2 games with only a break of 20 mins between games. But we had some great performances with Laura pulling off some point blank saves.

We had some great passages of play with Susan marshalling the defence with the help of  Aimee, Maura, Caragh and Clodagh O’ Connor. Kate Anne fell into centre back with Eimear, Sarah and Mary doing some great defending as well. Nora and Jadyn played midfield superbly, getting forward when they got the chance but were also on hand to help out their defence.

We had an array of scorers on the field with Jadyn scoring 2 goals and Sarah scoring 1 goal. Dearbhla won 2 penalties and numerous free kicks from some great runs. Erika, Ayesha, Sarah, Jadyn, Mary, Nora, Clodagh McHugh and Sibeal scored some great points from runs, game play and free kicks.

We played very well once we settled in both games. We were missing a good few players through injury and work. We also had a lot of  debutants with Mary, Dearbhla, Aimee, Maura and Caragh all making the 1st start for the Senior team and all played very well. This was a great workout for the year ahead with Thanks to Padraig Óg Ó Sé for the organising of the Tournament.
