Seniors    Na Gaeil travelled to Jackie Finnerty Park in Mountcoal on Sunday to take on St. Senans in Round 2 of the County League in what were ideal conditions for football.

St. Senans opened the scoring with a point but Na Gaeil quickly followed up with two pointed frees from Darragh Carmody and two from play from Diarmaid Herlihy and Mike Griffin. St. Senans pulled one back on the quarter hour mark followed by another pointed free from Darragh Carmody.

St. Senans then cut through for a goal to level matters up with 17 minutes gone. Darragh Carmody scored his 4th pointed free of the half followed by a good St. Senans point.

Na Gaeil dominated the last 10 minutes of the half with two coming from the boot of Diarmaid Herlihy and one each from Jack Carmody and Ian McCarthy.

Half time score: Na Gaeil 1-09; St. Senans 1-03.

Na Gaeil continued where they left off on the resumption and totally dominated the 2nd half with points coming from Jack Carmody, Diarmaid Herlihy, Seamie O’Neill(2) and Ian McCarthy before Darragh Carmody crashed a ball to the net with 10 minutes of the half gone.

The game was now over as a contest with the score Na Gaeil: 1-15; St Senans: 1-04. St. Senans fired over a point and Darragh and Ian put over two frees.

St. Senans scored a goal and a point before Kieran Donovan burst through to score a goal for Na Gaeil. Dara Devine put over another free for Na Gaeil before the referee blew full time. Final score: Na Gaeil: 2-18; St. Senans: 2-06.

This was a good display by Na Gaeil.  The defence played well as a unit with Colm Lyons, Eoin Doody and David Culloty and Kieran Donovan very solid. Stefan was once again a powerhouse when in midfield with Jack and Darragh Carmody working hard up front and Dara Devine showing what a skilful young player he is when introduced into the full forward line. Na Gaeil play Ballydonoghue at home in Round 3 in two weeks time.

Team: Tadhg O’Neill, Colm Lyons, Kieran Dineen, Eoin Doody, Kieran Donovan(1-0), David Culloty, Stefan Okunbor, Dan O’Connor, Seamie O’Neill(0-2), Jack Carmody(0-2), Ian McCarthy(0-3), Eoin Walsh, Darragh Carmody(1-05), Mike Griffin(0-2), Diarmaid Herlihy(0-4). Minors    Na Gaeil Minors played Austin Stacks in the County League on Saturday evening last in Connolly Park. It was a very entertaining game with Na Gaeil playing very well and leading from the start. They went in at half time four points up.

Na Gaeil continued to play with great heart and commitment in the 2nd half but were just overtaken at the final whistle by a Stacks score and were edged out by one point.

Final score: Na Gaeil 0-12: Austin Stacks: 0-13. While disappointed with the result the mentors must be delighted with the performance of all the boys especially with the limited panel they are working from.

U14    Our U14 team played Austin Stacks in Round 2 of the Town Board League on Sunday evening in Connolly Park. Unfortunately missing a number of players due to injury and illness, we lost to an impressive Austin Stacks team.

Our attention now turns to the County League and we have our first game away to Fossa this Wednesday at 6.30pm. We will have a light training session on Tuesday at 5.30pm to prepare for this game.

U10    Our U10 boys trained outdoors in the sunshine in Killeen last Sunday. See you all again next Sunday at 11am. Remember to bring your mouth guard & a bottle of water.

U6    Despite an hour less in bed, the under 6 boys and girls were in flying form on Sunday last as they kicked away their tiredness and built up a sweat during their training in the complex. Well done all!

Na Gaeil Ladies    Na Gaeil v Southern Gaels, Mary Jo Curran A Cup
We played in Cahirciveen on Sunday morning against Southern Gaels. Gaels started strongly scoring 3 early points before Kate Anne got us a point.

Gaels scored another 2 points before we started take control with Nora and Clodagh O’ Connor in midfield pulling the strings. With a strong back line of Eilis, Brid and Kate Anne, we started to control their forwards with Mary and Martina not letting any forward get sight of Susan’s goal.

This enabled our forwards to attack more with Clodagh McHugh to score 2 points and Meagan 1 point. Mags found Meagan with a fine pass which Meagan hit the back bar in the goals with a fierce shot but the ball rebounded out, goal scored but not given. Gaels started the 2nd half better than us scoring 3 quick points.

We replied back with 2 points from Meagan followed by a point from Mary after being set up by Caragh. As we were taking control of the game Gaels scored a goal against the run of play. From the kick out, Eimear found Nora who was fouled about 30 yards out from goal.

Meagan took the free kick and found the top corner but the ball went through the net and was given as a point instead of a goal. From that resulting kickout ,Brid won the ball, found Meagan and she scored a goal.

Eilis got us another point to leave us 1 point down but Gaels defended with their lives for the last few minutes and we couldn’t break them down. Final Score Na Gaeil:1.09; Southern Gaels: 1.10. This was a great game with  some great football being played but unfortunately we had no luck on the day.

Team : Susan Fernane, Martina O’Connor, Mary O’Connell, Brid O’Connor, Eilis O’Connor, Kate Anne O’Connor, Nóra O’Connell, Clodagh O’Connor, Marguerite Maunsell, Caragh O’ Neill, Meagan Sheehy, Clodagh McHugh, Eimear Nolan
