NA GAEIL LADIES:Na Gaeil Ladies v Kerins O Rahillys , U14 Tralee Town league Semi Final.

We played Kerins O Rahillys on Tuesday in Strand Rd. Abi started in goals for us with Amii, Grainne and Maura in the full-back line.

Clodagh, Dearbhla and Ciara worked hard in the half back line trying to support midfield. Sophie, Brid and Caragh played in the full forward line, creating chances and making some great space. Kay, Jadyn and Roisin were being marked tightly.

We lost Mary early in the game for a while after a clash of heads, which earned her a nice shiner. Jadyn moved into midfield scoring 2 points alongside Meagan who scored 1-01, where they had to work very hard to try and contain Rahillys. We got to half time, leading by a small margin.

We made a few changes, Muireann went into goals, Abi and Ciara into full forward line, with Abi getting herself a goal, and Ciara scoring 1-01. Mary came back on, scoring 3.01 and found a lot of space and some great passes from Kay, Jadyn and Meagan.

Rahillys were still proving themselves dangerous and earned themselves a penalty. Despite Muireann getting a hand to the ball from the penalty, she could keep it out of the net. We finished the game strongly, and looked forward to the Final Against Stacks.
Na Gaeil Ladies v Austin Stacks, U14 Tralee Town league A Final.

Na Gaeil hosted the A and B final in Killeen on Saturday evening. John Mitchels beat Kerins O Rahillys in the B final. We were the second game to be played in dry but very windy conditions.

We started brightly with Meagan scoring an early point. Mary followed with another point. Jadyn had a couple of close misses hitting the upright twice. Meagan followed on this with a point from a 45.

Sibeal who came back from injury, scored herself a point also. Stacks were always dangerous on the break, with a lot of pace through their team, where they managed to get a few scores.Meagan scored another 2 points before half time.

Despite playing the first half with the wind, we did not take advantage and we went in at half time level. Our second half was going to be tough, with Stacks having the strong wind and some strong kickers to use the wind to good effect. We knew the second half was going to be tough.

Stacks scored a goal and couple of points early in the second half and had the lead but as  happened all year, this team of girls do not know when to give up, and despite the odds, we started to regain possession, started to take the game to them.

With our defenders Amii and Maura winning and fighting for every ball and Ria clearing up any loose balls. Ciara who scored 1-01 in the forwards, came into goals for the last 15 mins to help set up attacks from the backs.

Grainne who worked tirelessly in marking Molly Carroll and did a magnificent job for the team. Dearbhla, Clodagh in the half back line defended with their lives with Muireann in the centre helping her defence and making some great runs forward. Sophie, Brid and Roisin were marked tightly in the full forward line but still managed to make room and get a few shots in.

Caragh came on and had a couple of great shots but was unlucky.  Our half forwards Abi, Sibeal and Kay were making runs, blocks, scoring and earning free kicks from their movements.

And with Jadyn, Mary and Meagan getting forward and back to help out in defence and attack, we were getting back on top. Jadyn and Meagan were combining well which enabled Jadyn to get a couple of crucial points to keep us within touching distance. Mary made another run from midfield, scoring a point and leaving us a point down.

With about 5 mins to go, Muireann won the ball on the half back line, passed it to Meagan, who made one of her surging runs from midfield, weaving this way and that way, she pushed right, cut back inside and left off a ferocious shot which gave the keeper no chance.

Jadyn settled us with our last point of the game and with Stacks trying to force their way in for a goal, our defence stood strong with Stacks having to settle for a point instead. Ciara kicked the ball out and the whistle was blown for full time.

Our supporters erupted on the sideline, after another exciting free flowing game of football. Well done to all the girls who have had a great year, who have worked hard in training and have gotten their just rewards for their efforts and their never giving up attitude.

This was also the last game for our U14’s this year and i would like to wish to those that are moving up to U16’s the very best and to the U14’s that will be playing U14 the very best also for next year.
