Na GaeilNA GAEIL SENIOR: In what was always going to be a difficult away game, Na Gaeil face Kerins O’Rahilly’s in the first round of the town league.

O Rahillys started the stronger scoring the opening three scores without reply. Na Gaeil got off the mark courtesy of Dara Carmody, who goaled after ten minutes to level the game.

With little separating the two sides in the game Na Gaeil  scored their second goal around the twenty minute, when Darren Burns threaded the ball into Ian McCarthy who calmly lobbed the keeper.

Shane Carey scored the last point of the half leaving the sides at the break, Kerins O’Rahilly’s 0-07 ; Na Gaeil 02-01.
The second half of was just as tight as in the opening half with both sides having periods of dominance without being able to transfer it to scores. Na Gaeil scores in the second half were Data Camody one being courtesy of a free after Shane Carey was felled, Ian McCarthy and a superb long ranged effort from Jamie Lowham.

Unfortunately for the vistors a combination of a heavy pitch and it being the first game of the season saw Kerins O’Rahillys with two late points run out winners . Kerins O Rahillys 0-13 ; Na Gaeil 02-05.

NA GAEIL U14:The under 14 team have been back training since the beginning of February and have had a number of indoor sessions and one outdoor session. They have also played two challenge matches against An Ghaeltacht and Laune Rangers which will help get the players back into match fitness.

The mid-term break will give us an opportunity to have outdoor training sessions this week which are scheduled for Wednesday and Friday at 5pm. We also have a challenge match at Home to Finuge next Sunday at 12pm.

The team mentors have been pleased with the turnout of players at the opening sessions but it is vital that we have as many players as possible at training over the coming weeks as this pre-season training will dictate how we perform in the county league

A training schedule was handed out to players at last week’s training, those who were missing can collect the schedule at this week’s sessions.

NA GAEIL U14: The under 14 team travelled to Laune Rangers on Sunday for a friendly game in wet and heavy conditions. We had a strong panel of players ready and able and displayed terrific work rate a teamwork against a very skilful opposition. The wind was a factor for both sides in both halves and although the score was not kept, there was plenty of goals and points for both sides.

Panel: Adam Burke, Mathew Burke, Jack Bourke, Enda o Connor, Jack o Brien, Cian Devine, Devon Burns, Tadgh Lynch, Ruiri o Sullivan, Darragh Reen, Tom Walsh, Barry Sugrue, Shane Daly, Jimmy o Sullivan, Jack Sheehan, Liam Rice, Thomas Hanifan. Keep up the good work lads.

NA GAEIL SENIOR LADIES:Na GAEIL v Corca Dhuibhne senior league Div 2 first Round. We played Corca Dhuibhne on Sunday morning in Killeen. Corca came in with a full strength team but we were missing a good few players through injury so we had to start with a very young team.

We got off to a good start with Marie kicking over a fine point from distance, there was plenty of movement in the forwards with Jadyn, Jenny and Sile, our half forwards Fiona, Kate Anne and Meagan were making some good runs. Our midfielders Eilis and Marie were working hard , getting back to help the defence and setting up attacks. Marie scored form a penalty that Sile earned for us.

Niamh started in goals and had an outstanding game, making some great kickouts. Eimear, Muireann and Deirdre had a very tough game with a strong Corca attacking team. Nora, Brid and Sarah defended superbly on the 40th, Shauna came on and gave a bit more movement in around the 40.

With Marie dominating midfield and getting some fine scores and Deirdre winning every ball that came her way, we were playing well but our luck was not there on the day as we had a lot of wides to easily win the game so Corca Dhuibhne edged us out at the end to win by a few points.

Despite this we dominated possession, had plenty of chances and had some good interplay. This was a good start to the year with some good football played at stages during the game, despite the result. Hopefully we get our injured players back and we can look forward to a good year.
