COUNTY JUNIOR FINAL

Last Saturday evening Na Gaeil played An Ghaeltacht in Annascaul in the
County League Final. Na Gaeil started very strong with half time score reflecting this 2-6 TO 0-7 but An Ghaeltacht came out fighting in the second half, but our boys held on till the final whistle, final score 2- 10 to 1 -12.

Na Gaeil winners by 1 point.Well done to all involved great win for the club.

NA GAEIL U14

The U14 team played John Mitchels in Round three of the Tralee Town Board League last Wednesday evening in Killeen. Na Gaeil got the perfect start when John Ward scored a goal in the first minute.

He followed up three minutes later with a point to open a four point lead. Dan Goggin scored Na Gaeil’s second goal after ten minutes which was followed by another John Ward point two minutes later. John Mitchels got their first score of the game after fifteen minutes but Na Gaeil stuck back with further scores from Rory Murphy and John Ward to leave the half time score Na Gaeil 2-5 John Mitchels 0-1.

Na Gaeil had a similar half time lead in a St Brendan’s league match earlier in the year but Mitchels fought back in the second period to run out easy winners.

The Na Gaeil youngsters were reminded of this at half time and they were determined that there would be no repeat on this occasion.

Rory Murphy extended Na Gaeil’s lead with a point in the first minute and David Boyle was on the score board minutes later when he scored a point from a free.

As expected John Mitchels did not give up and hitback with a goal and two points to reduce the gap. Rory Murphy replied with his second point of the half but this was immediately cancelled with another point from the visitors.

However Na Gaeil ensured that there would be no come back from Mitchels and put the game beyond doubt when they scored five points in five minutes from the sixteenth to twenty first minute.

The most pleasing part of this was that these scores were all scored by different players. Rory Murphy got his third point of the second half on the sixteenth minute and this was followed with scores from Fergal Barry, John Ward, Adam Burke and David Boyle.

John Mitchels got two further points in the final ten minutes but Na Gaeil finished the game strongly with two goals from Rory Murphy and another point from John Ward to leave the final score Na Gaeil 4-14 John Mitchels 1-6.

Na Gaeil learned from their games against strong teams over the last few weeks. The backs gave their opponents no time or space and the forwards played as a unit and got some excellent scores.

This was a very good team performance against a good side and Na Gaeil fully deserved their victory.

The reward for this performance is a place in the Town League final against Churchill.

NA GAEIL U10

Last Saturday we were invited to Castleisland Desmonds for a Mini Blitz.A big turnout of players were rewarded with a memorable day.

In glorious sunshine we began the morning with 40 minutes of skills training with Colm Cooper and and Ciaran Killkenny. Great credit must go to all the boys for listening attentively through-out the session and in turn displaying great skill in carrying out all the drills.

All the boys were delighted to meet up close two greats of the modern game.

Following on from that we had three fantastic matches. First up were a strong Ballymac outfit who would have been favorites to win due to their big squad but in the end it was Na Gaeil who prevailed despite two key players, Cian O Neill and Kieran O Connor picking up injuries.

In the forwards line, Kian Sheahan , Nathan Rodgers and Arron Delahunty picked off some great points aided in midfield by Jack Doyle and Sean O Connell who both pressed forward with great urgency.

Next up were our old rivals, John Mitchels and as we had been unbeaten against them this year they were determined to make amends. What transpired was undoubtedly the match of the day.

Having to rest Cian O Neill and Sean O Connor due to injury we gave a display of sheer heart and determination. Despite losing by a single point in the end it was the best performance I have seen from the boys all year.

Shane Kelly came on as replacement and made some vital interceptions to prevent certain scores. Edward Sheehy despite playing a hurling Blitz in Tralee came to help us out in the next two games and gave a stirring performance also. Two players who are growing in confidence all the time are Rory Reen and Batty Coffey.

They relished their role in midfield making some fine catches and will be main players for next years Under 10s.

Our Final game was against Corrow and after a slow start we again settled having played into a strong breeze in the first half. We won out in the end while Sean O Connor having passed himself fit to play, was a constant threat going forward and picked up some fine scores while Sean Barrett defended heroically throughout.

A mention also to Cillian Murphy who travelled to support his team and while unable to play in the three games due to a broken arm earlier in the summer,he was delighted to be able to take part in the skill training.

NA GAEIL U8

Our boys were delighted to host John Mitchels U-8s last Sunday. Both clubs were able to field 2 teams so all the players enjoyed plenty game-time. Training continues next Thursday (18th) at 6.30pm.

No training next Sunday due to the All-Ireland final. Best wishes to Peter Doyle who celebrates his 8th birthday on Sunday
NA GAEIL LADIES: Na GAEIL Ladies v John Mitchels u16 Town League. We played away to John Mitchels on Thursday evening.

It was a fine evening for a game. John Mitchels started with the wind and used to it their advantage. Aishling started in goals with Blaithnoid, Seili and Emer who was captain on the night. Kelly, Muireann and Sarah played on the half back line. Mitchels were strong and physical.

We still played some good football but for a couple of injuries that we got during the game which disrupted us a bit.

Nora and Nessa worked hard in midfield. Jadyn, Sibeal and Meagan were all over the field but were marked tightly by their defenders.Erika ,Niamh and Caoimhe worked well together up front.

Mitchels built up a bit of a lead in the first half despite we having most of the possession. We were down by 3 points at half time.

We started the second half strongly as well but as in the first half, we just could not get enough scores, with hitting crossbars and posts.

We changed things around with Clodagh, Brid, Abi, Kay, Maura and Amii coming on. We were coming back into the game but again a couple of niggly injuries broke our stride and Mitchels beat us by 4 points.

This was one of those games that no matter we did, even with all our possession, we could not score. Mitchels did defend brilliantly, so well done to them.

Team ; Aishling White, Blaithnoid O Connor, Seili Lynch, Eimear Nolan, Kelly Bowler, Muireann Moriarty, Erika O Sullivan,Nessa Mc Garty, Nora O Connell, Sarah Quigley, Meagan Sheehy, Sibeal Casey, Niamh Griffin, Jadyn Lucey, Caoimhe Hanafin, Clodagh O Connor ,Kay Barry,Amii Kerins, Maura Adams, Abi Casey, Brid Sinnott.

NA GAEIL LADIES U15

We played Kilcummin on Sunday evening in the U15 County Championship Final. This was a strong physical Kilcummin team.

We started with the wind in the first half with Abi in goals, Amii, Blaithnoid and Maura on the full back line and they defended very well, protecting their goalkeeper.

Mary, Muireann and Sarah in the half back line stuck to their jobs and got forward when possible for support. Nora and Nessa must have touched each blade of grass on the field.

Jadyn was marked tightly but could not be prevented from scoring 3 points in the first half, Sibeal was making some great runs and scored 3 points also but it was Meagan who was causing the damage as they put 4 different markers on her to try and contain her running, passing and scored 1-01 in the first half, Brid ,Caoimhe and Clodagh were causing all kinds of problems with their movements.

Kay came on at full forward and got us a couple of frees. We had all the possession in the game but Kilcummin used their strength to get a couple of goals to keep in contention.

Abi started up front for in the second half and scored a good point and also got us a couple of frees, Nora made another trademark run from midfield and scored a fine point. Dearbhla came on at the backs and stiffened up our defence and they had the wind for the second half but they were not able to use it as Meagan and Jadyn caused all kinds of disarray in their defence with their running and passing, with Jadyn scoring another 1-04.

This was a pure team performance again with our back lines working well together with Mary, Muireann and Sarah really cleaning up any ball that was trying to get into our half of the field and credit has to our midfielders Nora and Nessa who give our forwards the licence to attack. So Congratulations to a reall hard fought game that is well deserved. Special thanks to Troy and Eimear who worked hard on the sideline and also to Erika and Ciara who missed the game through injury. Captains on the day were Sarah Quigley and Nora O Connell.
Thanks also go to our supporters and parents who came to the game and thanks to Sean and staff for our welcome when we got back to the club.
Final Score 2-13 to 4-01.
