NA Gaeil will have their day in Croke Park in two weeks time, after they won their All-Ireland Junior Club Semi-Final this afternoon.

The Oakpark clubmen beat Kilmaine of Mayo in Cusack Park, Ennis, and can now look forward to a date in headquarters on Saturday, January 25, as one of the opening games for the Allianz National League game between Kerry and Dublin. The game has a 3.15pm throw-in and will be broadcast live on TG4.

They won’t be joined by their fellow Kerrymen on the day, as Templenoe lost their AIB All-Ireland Intermediate Club Football Championship Semi-Final against Oughterard from Galway in Kilmallock this afternoon by 0-12 to 1-12.

Na Gaeil were challenged right to the end by the Mayo outfit, needing extra time to decide the encounter, eventually winning 0-13 to 1-9.

Conditions were poor for the game which started with the sides trading points for most of the opening quarter of the game. However, the Connacht side scored a goal to go 1-2 to 0-3 ahead on 13 minutes.

Na Gaeil fought back gamely though to regain parity at the half-time break 0-6 to 1-3. The Tralee team started the second half the better scoring three points without reply to go 0-9 to 1-3 up on 41 minutes.

But nine minutes later, Kilmaine were level with three unanswered points of their own. Na Gaeil looked safe when they went two points up in injury time, but the Mayo side weren’t beaten and five minutes into added time they were level to force extra-time.

It was tough going for Na Gaeil in extra-time, but they managed to score two points in the opening period. It was all Kilmaine in the second period and they got a point back to get the difference down to the bare minimum, but the Tralee side managed to hold on and win the day.
