KERRY Recreation and Sports Partnership, with the support of Sport Ireland, has joined up with Operation Transformation for the National Walk Day on Saturday, January 18 with two walks in Kerry.

The national event, now in its tenth year, has always had a great turn out with thousands of people donning their walking shoes and getting active.

This year there will be two organised walks in Kerry in Listowel and Tralee. Both walks will take place on Saturday, January 18 at 11am to coincide with the official national start time.

The Tralee walk will be based at the Tralee Bay Wetlands Centre (Eircode: V92 HH57) and follows a 7km route along the old tow path of Tralee Ship Canal.

The Listowel Walk is a 5km route within Listowel Town Park (Eircode: V31 VK13). Both walks are suitable for people of all ages and abilities.

Hundreds of Kerry walkers are expected to get involved in what has always been regarded as a fantastic day out.

“This is the perfect opportunity to shed those holiday cobwebs and to get started on new year’s resolutions. It’s a chance to face new challenges in the company of many others,” said Jimmy Deenihan, Chairperson of Kerry Recreation and Sports Partnership. ‘The Operation Transformation Walk provides an excellent opportunity for everyone to get the year off to an active start.’

Córa Carrigg, Sports Co-Ordinator with Kerry Recreation and Sports Partnership added: “The day would not be possible without the support of so many organisations who come together to make the event a huge success, namely, An Garda Síochána, Civil Defence, Kerry County Council, Listowel Community and Tralee Bay Wetlands Centre and the special team of volunteers. Come along, meet new people and enjoy the day. Both walks will start promptly at 11am so please ensure to arrive in plenty of time and savour the atmosphere.”
