The Ocean Wide brown ale inspired by Fungie.

A NEW Fungie-inspired beer has been launched by an Irish brewery.

Dublin-based microbrewery Whiplash Beer today launched the brand new beer named The Ocean Wide in honour of the beloved dolphin of Dingle.

Having spent many a summer’s weekend in the town, the team at Whiplash hope Fungie, who has been missing from Dingle since October, has retired to warmer waters after a lifetime of service to locals and tourists alike.

In his memory, Whiplash has brewed a maple syrup infused brown ale. It has a traditional base of floor malted Maris Otter for an extra biscuity and nutty flavour, some old school brown malt, a few oats, Belgian aromatic, a light touch of chocolate malt and a very, very heavy hand of maple syrup.

The Ocean Wide launched the beer on www.whiplashbeer.com/shop and in Kerry will be available in Carryout Killarney, Carryout Kenmare, and via Celtic Whiskey Bar Killarney’s online store at www.craftbeersdelivered.com.

What Fungie are we at now, Fungie VI?
Personally, I believe the people of Dingle must be cloning him at this point! 😉
