LAST week saw more than 500 people attend the launch of the new book about the life and success of the Kerry athlete, John Lenihan, which is entitled ‘Tough As Leather’.
Lenihan, the former ‘World Mountain Running Champion’ from Ballymac, has run more than 140,000 miles during his illustrious career, the equivalent of running around the world six times.
The 220-page book, written by journalist Con Dennehy, was launched in Gallys Restaurant last Friday by Cork adventurer Clare O’Leary, who has just returned from an expedition in Greenland.
Weeshie Fogarty was on hand for the night to handle all the microphone duties, while guests at the event included Michael Healy Rae, Tom Fleming TD and the former Archbishop of Cashel Dermot Clifford, with the author Con Dennehy speaking on the night as well.
“The response to the book had been phenomenal. The launch was a magical occasion with guests from all over Ireland attending. The book, tracing Johns sporting and personal life, will ensure his achievements will be acknowledged into the future and his name preserved in the folklore of Kerry and Irish sport,” said Con Dennehy.
The Dublin launch of the book will be taking place at the end of the month.
