New Car Sales In Kerry Up 15% Compared To First Six Months Of 2020

THERE was a rise in new car sales in Kerry last month compared to June 2020, according to the latest statistics from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI).

There were 22 new car registrations in the county in June 2021 compared to 17 in the same month last year, an increase of 29%.

In the first half of this year there have been 1,365 new car sales in Kerry while last year there were 1,185 in the same period, an increase of 15.19%. Nationally, new car registrations are up 20%.

So far this year, Toyota is the most popular make of car with 179 units sold, with the other Top 5 made up of Hyundai (168), Ford (163), Volkswagen (160) and Skoda (149).

The Hyundai Tucson is the most popular model sold this year on 85 units, with Ford Focus (60), the Toyota Corolla (53) and Volkswagen Tiguan and Kia Sportage (both on 52) making up the top five.

Diesel cars were the most popular engine type in 572 units with 411 petrol. Next is 211 petrol/electric vehicles sold, a rise of 48.59% on the same period in 2020, 62 electric (+93.75%), 55 diesel/electric (+1,275%) and 52 petrol/plug-in electric hybrid (+173.68%) and 2 petrol/gas.
