A NEW Craft Makers centre has opened in Ashe Street, Tralee, dedicated to showcasing and promoting the best of Irish craft and design.

The new centre, located in a renovated Victorian building, has been brought about in collaboration with Eibhlin and Dick Henggeler of the Fels Point Hotel.

With a particular emphasis on the promotion of craft handmade in Kerry, Craft Makers encourages the public to make, learn and buy handmade products for home and gifting.

The centre is showcasing a Christmas Craft Shop and is collaborating with Original Kerry, the network of craft makers who set up Kerry Craft Trail in 2011.

The centre is the brain child of Eibhlin and Dick Henggeler, new owners of the Fels Point Hotel. In a recent statement Dick said; “We are excited to bring a new quality permanent craft store to downtown Tralee and at the same time support these outstanding Kerry craft makers”.

The centre is managed by Deirdre Enright, who is known for her work with craft makers in Kerry.

“The philosophy behind Craft Makers is sound provenance and good craftsmanship. Knowing just who made the pots, the chairs, the cardigans and the household goods and gifts that are on sale in the store”, Deirdre stated.

Much of the stock is limited in edition, made with great care and of a very high design standard. Deirdre is inviting all ages to pop in and see the diversity of work on offer.  She is also encouraging the public to take part in a workshop, or to buy a craft making course for a friend or loved one as a Christmas present this year.

Craft Makers allows the visitor great choice in the buying of craft. A high level of craftsmanship is to the fore in the makers represented in the centre.

Eibhlin Henggeler went on to say; “We have abundance in Kerry of great craft skill and originality. Craft Makers is all about harnessing that skill and sharing it with a wide audience of all ages.”

The centre will run a variety of craft making courses in their training rooms all year.

They are taking bookings now for Felting and Woodturning workshops on Saturdays in December. Call 066 7120632.

Information will be available online at www.craftmakers.ie

Open seven days a week from now until Christmas with price points to suit all ages.
