THE Sants 5k Fun Run is back this month!

It’s an event which sees the Wetlands turn red and white every December and offers a chance for families to get together in festive costumes on a Sunday morning for some healthy fun.

This will be the seventh year of the event which was founded by Martin and Deirdre Moore in 2013 in memory of their daughter Fiona, who was just 16 when she passed away in May of that year from Pulmonary Hypertension, while waiting on a lung transplant.

Since it started, over €50,000 has been raised for various children’s charities and the event has grown into a festive tradition for families.

Taking place on Sunday, December 15 at 11am, this year’s beneficiary will be the Jack and Jill Foundation.

“We just hope the weather will be kind and that the people of Tralee and beyond to come out in force again. It’s such a colourful occasion for Tralee during the festive period,” said Martin Moore.

Participants will also receive a specially created medal this year of Santa running in front of Blennerville Windmill wearing pink boots.

“Fiona was very fond of her style and her pink boots were a big fashion statement,” said Martin who has taken her pink boots on his travels when taking part in walking or running events.

Martin also said the medal would also look good as a Christmas decoration. To register for the event click here to go to the eventbrite page.
