PLANNING permission has been granted for a new petrol station on the John Joe Sheehy on the grounds of the old John Mitchels GAA pitch.

Last December, Corrib Oil Company Limited, applied for permission to construct a two storey retail/office building and a petrol filling station.

Permission was granted in March but the decision was appealed to An Bord Pleanála.  However the two storey retail/office building and a petrol filling station finally got the go ahead this week.

The development will comprise of a retail shopping area and an off-licence, food counter and seating area.

The construction of a forecourt will include six pump islands with a canopy covering it and car wash facilities with a single storey car wash building.

The site will also include car parking, landscaping and associated site works. It’s another planned development for that part of town after Lidl submitted their plans to construct a supermarket on the old Heiton Buckley premises at Edward Street towards the end of last year.
