New Road (featuring Leonard Barry from Tralee on left) launch their album in Siamsa next Wednesday.

A LOCAL man will launch his band’s new album at a concert in Siamsa Tire next week.

New Road, featuring uilleann piper Leonard Barry (originally from Kilmoyley but whose father Richard hails from Rock Street), have a unique blend of uilleann pipes, fiddle, harmonica, concertina, 5-string banjo, guitar, mandolin, jaw harp and bodhrán.

Celebrating the release of their first album, Stone Walls and Street Lights, which has been described as “glorious” (The Irish Times), “Superb” ( RTE Radio 1), New Road will come to Siamsa Tíre with special guests, Cathy Jordan (one of Ireland’s finest singers of Dervish fame) and Cork’s own Mick Daly, on Wednesday, October 19 at 8pm.

New Road and guests will incorporate Irish traditional, Appalachian old-time, blues and beyond, and bring to the stage a musical experience full of passion and exhilaration, depth and beauty.

Stone Walls and Street Lights,  features guest artists on the album including bodhrán legend Johnny “Ringo” McDonagh of Arcady and De Dannan, Cathy Jordan of Dervish and The Unwanted, and Sligo guitarist Shane McGowan, who has performed with Sean Keane, Lunasa and Indian percussionist Zakir Hussain.
