ISN’T it lovely?

Walkers and motorists might have seen the striking new monument recently erected  at Ballymullen roundabout.

The stone structure, which is emblazoned with the Rose of Tralee logo, was financed by Eibhlin and Dick Henggeler of The Rose Hotel who have done so much to make that roundabout look attractive – along with the diligent work of Tralee Tidy Towns and Kerry County Council.

The Henggelers wished to honour the wonderful community and voluntary spirit that goes into the organisation of the festival down through the years.

Terry O’Brien was approached about the project in his capacity as Mayor of Tralee and set about organising the monument with the Tidy Tralee Together group under the chairmanship of Joe Moynihan.

“I believe it represented a wonderful opportunity as a Tidy Town’s project, as the theme of it was to highlight the voluntary spirit in the town,” said Mayor O’Brien.

Local sculptor, Billy Leen, was commissioned to design and create the monument and the result is very impressive.

Well done to all involved in the project, especially Dick and Eibhlín Henggeler who thanked the Mayor of Tralee and the other elected members of Kerry County Council and Tralee Municipal District, for welcoming and supporting their vision.

    Very nice.

Now, Kerry County Council do something more practical down the road at the Castlemorris roundabout – that roundabout is too big in structure and the lanes are too small as a result causing lots of minor road traffic collisions.
Just make the lanes bigger by reducing the size of the roundabout or even flatten the design a bit like the one outside University Hospital Kerry and feel free to stick what you like on it!
