AMONG the many things parents and prospective students will be told about when visiting the CBS The Green Open Evening this Thursday, is a new subject which has just started this term.

Teacher Cathal Halton from Meath is the new Technology teacher in a classroom decked out with all the tools necessary and some hi-tech equipment.

In Technology, students will use the design process to work through a task or problem in order to arrive at a solution, which is usually in the form of an artefact or finished product. They will learn how to safely use the tools, materials and equipment necessary to make this product. There is a big emphasis on safety right throughout the course.

Deputy Principal, Robert Flaherty said it’s a welcome addition at the school.

“It’s a new subject introduced here and part of our STEM subjects, with a view that students will study technology and there is a cross-curricular link between that and other subjects like maths and physics,” said Mr Flaherty.

“The subject is a combination of woodwork, metalwork and electronics and we some hi-tech equipment like 3D printer and a laser cutter to complete tasks,” he added. The CBS The Green open evening takes place from 6pm to 8.30pm on Thursday, October 18.
