New TV Drama By Kerry Director Starring Pat Shortt To Air Next Month

A TV DRAMA series directed by Kerry man Gerard Barrett and starring Pat Shortt will begin its run on TV3 next month.

Last night on Twitter, the former IT Tralee student and Knockanure native released the poster for ‘Smalltown’ which he wrote, directed and produced with the message ‘I’m going back to where it all began’  attached to the image. (see below)

‘Smalltown’ is a three part, hour long episode series that tells the story of twenty-something Charlie Kelly who has returned home from London after many years.

Expecting his old community to be the same, he finds a lot has changed since he left.

Pat Shortt plays the part of the father who runs the family farm and is struggling to deal with illness of his wife and Charlie’s mother.

Last year Barret’s film ‘Glassland’ starring Toni Collette won Best Irish Film award at the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival.

The previous year  Barrett won the IFTA Rising Star Award at the Irish Film and Television Academy Awards in Dublin for his debut feature ‘Pilgrim Hill’ which was widely acclaimed.

Smalltown airs on TV3 on airs on September 1st, 8th, and 15th at 10pm each night.
