KERRY North East & West Kerry Development (NEWKD) is to receive €1,058,725 through the Department Rural and Community Development Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme (SICAP).
Seanad Leas-Cathaoirleach and Fine Gael Senator Paul Coghlan said the Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring, confirmed to me that funding of €1,629,599 will be made available for Kerry through the programme. It breaks down as;
• Kerry South Kerry & Killarney €514,807
• Kerry Rathmore & Gneeveguilla €56,067
• Kerry North East & West Kerry €1,058,725
Senator Coghlan said: “This support which will make a real difference to disadvantaged people and groups in Kerry. SICAP funding supports life-long learning, strengthening communities and helping people to become job ready.
“SICAP, which is administered by Pobal and overseen at a community level by the Local Community Development Committees, has a proven track record of helping disadvantaged people to make real progress in their lives.”
“The programme supports unemployed people; people living in all areas; people with disabilities; single parent families; those on low income and other disadvantaged groups.”
The Social Inclusion and Activation Programme is a government funded programme designed to reduce poverty and social exclusion through a range of interventions at both a group and individual level which are delivered in local communities.
