My best friend Elmar Waters is one of the most selfless nurses out there. She always always puts her patients needs before her own, before this pandemic and now that we are in the pandemic. She has put her whole life on hold, separated from her boyfriend for nearly 3 months, as he is living with his elderly parents. She did this with no hesitation, eventhough it has been very very hard for her. She stayed away from family, friends and any sort of support network at one of the most challenging times for all frontline workers and as a best friend I have tried to be there as much as I can in whatever way I could. A trip like this would mean the world to her as Killarney holds lots of happy memories for her. She is amazing!

I’m nominating my amazing and caring Dad, Denis Culloty who is a front-line worker in UHK. I am nominating him as he always always helps other people and never does things for himself, not only in the hospital but at home too. My neighbour (who is like a grandmother to me and has known us all our whole life) turned 90 years old in October! She unfortunately has glaucoma and can’t see much. My dad has been going around 3 times a day for I don’t know how many years putting drops in her eyes after he gets home from work and usually spends up to an hour with her just so she can have some company never asking for anything in return. My dad is such a well known character around the hospital as he always has that bubbly smile on his face and is such a compassionate individual. I’m blessed to be able to call my dad, my hero. Throughout the whole pandemic he has worked tirelessly without ever complaining that most people are off and some even getting full pay. Words cannot express how lucky I am to have such an amazing and thoughtful dad. I couldn’t think of anyone who deserves a break more. When the tractor parade came by the hospital last week to raise funds, my dad was working in his scrubs but my cousin was participating so my dad ended up driving the tractor around the hospital 3 times so he could wave to patients as no patients got to see it. During the pandemic, most patients don’t get to go to the hospital shop so he’d bring up goodies and magazines to them. I could write a book about all the generous things my dad has done over the years but I’d be here forever!

I would like to nominate my twin sister rosemary Lenihan Killarney work through pandemic in saint Colmbanaus home Killarney looking after elderly people keeping them safe she works very hard as she single mom and will be turning 40th in august would love be able treat to something

  8. Nuala Tohill says:

I would like to nominate my sister Lauren, she studied hard to get her degree in nursing and selflessly devotes her time to working in the mental health ward in BCH to care and assist those vulnerable members of society who are not always seen as sick but need the expert care and attention their loved ones are unable to provide. When the pandemic kicked in to full swing she was redeployed and ousted onto the front line to help battle the odds and help us all win the fight against COVID19. I am so proud of her (on a normal day) but extra proud in these strange days we live in. The storys i heard of what she faced on a shift would send anyone running…. but a true hero dusts themselves off and goes back out to face it head on and suceed. She truely would deserve a break away … to clear the head and switch off for a few days.
