rsz_mike_ohalloranOur hurling analyst, Mike O’Halloran, says the Garvey’s Supervalu Kerry SHC Final this Sunday will be a close run thing…

Lixnaw and Kilmoyley meet in the Garveys SuperValu Kerry Senior Hurling Championship next Sunday in Austin Stacks Park in Tralee.

Lixnaw come into this game having had five games in the run-up to the final due to fact that they came through the back door and had a replay win over last year’s champions St Brendan’s Ardfert.

They say that a game in the championship is worth ten training sessions. If that is true then Lixnaw should have the edge over Kilmoyley who have gone through the front door, wiping their feet on the mats of Ballyduff, Crotta and Causeway.

Kilmoyley are without a large number of the players who played in their last final appearance in 2009 and were given little chance of coming to this stage of the competition due to the loss of these players through emigration and other circumstances.

Given that Lixnaw seem to have a bit of a hex over Kilmoyley over the past few years, most people will make them favourites but they will have to plan without the services of their goalie Martin Stackpoole whose arm was still in plaster on Tuesday when I spoke to him.

Lixnaw’s Jonathan Silles could have an important say in the game this Sunday.

His replacement in the semi-final, young David Silles, had a fine game but will the pressure of a senior final have an effect on this excellent net minder.

The young guns from Kilmoyley are determined to put an end to the dominance Lixnaw has had over them in recent years and they, led by their captain Seanie Murnane, will leave no drop of sweat unshed in their efforts to build a new era of Kilmoyley dominance.

Neck on the block time then; Kilmoyley by a point or two. On the fence time; a draw.
