A FORMER teacher from Presentation Secondary School, who died in a road accident in 2014, was remembered in a competition run by the Irish Austrian Society and was won in its inaugural year by Presentation.

Over hundred essays were submitted this year – 45 from Presentation Secondary School Tralee.

The trophy was created by the Irish Austrian Society in honour of Catriona Dowling, German teacher at Presentation Tralee who died tragically in December 2014.  She and her students contributed to the Irish Austrian Society’s competition for many years.  Students from 3rd, 4th and 5th year wrote essays in German for the competition this year to bring the trophy to Tralee in its inaugural year.

Catriona’s family were present at the prize giving ceremony on Wednesday, May 11 at the Austrian Embassy in Dublin when German teacher Marion Cronin accepted the trophy on behalf of Catriona Dowling’s students who had worked so hard to honour her memory.

Presentation Secondary Tralee would like to thank the Irish Austrian Society for their wonderful gesture which will ensure that Catriona Dowling’s legacy lives on.
