rsz_orlagh_1AND so it arrives on Thursday, the biggest day of the racing calendar in Kerry!

Ladies Day at Killarney racecourse has become synonomus with style and there are a lot of Tralee ladies heading there to show off the best they have to offer.

This year the event is sponsored by Dawn Milk and has two wonderful prizes. The winner of the Queen of Fashion will walk away (no doubt in suitably fashioned heels) with a five star trip to Paris, the fashion capital of Europe and a specially commissioned crystal vase.

Also up for grabs for the most stylish hat is another trip, this time to Milan and the winner of this category will also get a specially commissioned vase.

The celebrity judge this year is the beautiful Kathryn Thomas, herself a winner of many fashion accolades.

No doubt there will be some people who will disagree with the final winning choice and there will be some disappointed ladies at the end of the day.

A golden rule to avoid having to drown your sorrows with some champers, is to remember that the choice is subjective and just because you are not chosen as the winner, does not mean that you don’t look anything less than fabulous.

Munster is sweeping the boards at ladies days all over the country and this is hardly a big surprise when you think of the talent in this neck of the woods.

I have written before about the wonderful talents of Carol Kennelly, Aoife Hannon and Breda Galwey. Keep an eye out this year for the spectacular pieces by Rebekah Wall and Elizabeth Christina Designs (I am wearing one of her pieces myself teamed with a gorgeous Tina Griffin creation).

What is fantastic about Ladies Day is that it’s a day that we can all get dressed up, sip some bubbles and forget about our everyday worries.

The fact that you can actually win money on the horses is an added bonus. A win in any race makes up for any loss you may be feeling if you have not been asked into the inner circle.

Last week I was in Ballyheigue giving fashion tips for the races and as always one of the biggest tips that I can ever give is to get the tan right.

If you are not blessed with sallow skin and wish to have a healthy glow, leave it to the professionals and have a spray tan.

On the other hand, pale and interesting is always beautiful and according to worldwide reports, freckles are seriously en vogue. This is good news for me and seventy per cent of the Irish population.

So ladies if you are heading to the races on Thursday, even if you are not selected as a winner, have fun and as always…

Stay stylish

Orlagh xx
