Orlagh Winters ProfileSO now is the time that we start to think about one of our big wardrobe investments, a winter coat!

Much to the despair of my very own Irish mammy, I love the colour black so much that it makes up 90% of my wardrobe.

She thinks I look like I am costantly in mourning but I just love black. This year will be no different than previous years and I will be buying a black coat. I have spotted a really nice one in Oasis and at €109 it is good value for money.

If money was no object I would love to don the beautiful military style of Victoria Beckham’s collection. However at €2,450 there will be two chances of that happening. The chances are slim and anorexic.

A super website to check out what is hot in the fashion world is net-a-porter.com It has all the “lust haves” but always gives inspiration to get the trend right and make sure that you know what is hot and what is not.

The fashion show season is about to commence in earnest this month so make sure that you attend at least one to see what your local boutiques have on offer.

Nothing beats seeing a coat on the catwalk as opposed to in a magazine or a website. Orla Diffily of Upfront PR and Model Management has some super shows coming up, I will keep you posted.

As a coat is one of the most expensive items that you will buy, take your time when choosing and try on lots of styles.

A little tip is to take a photo of yourself in it when trying it on, this will help you choose the one that is right for you.

The black coat is a stylish investment.

If you find that buying a coat this year is outside your budget, then a handy tip is to recycle your old coat. This can be done quite easily by changing buttons or adding a fur collar or cuffs.

Even a large brooch can change the look of a coat. That’s Perfect in Tralee have a wonderful collection of large brooches.

Make sure that before you make any changes to your current coat that you get it dry cleaned. If you decide to shorten the length or the sleeves, spend some time consulting with your tailor.

I always find that now is a good time to look at hats, scarves or gloves to add to your winter look.

All the regular high street labels have up to the minute styles and are well worth a visit. Debenhams and Shaws have wonderful concessions and it is great when you have so many choices under one roof.

If like me you are leaning towards a black coat then ensure that you add your splash of colour with your winter accessories. A cream hat and scarf with black leather gloves is always a classic look.

According to the experts in Met Eireann we won’t be needing the winter woolies just yet but don’t let that put you off in your quest for finding the perfect coat. Start the search today!

Until next week,
Stay stylish!

Orlagh xx
