Orlagh new profile 1HERE in the Kindom of Kerry, we are blessed to have many talented people in all walks of life.

Over the next few weeks I will be meeting some of these people who will give us an insight into their lives and their work and talents.

We start this process with an extemely talented make-up artist Caroline Sugrue-Scroope. Caroline is a busy mum to two gorgeous daughters and is also one of the most experienced make-up artists in Tralee.

I met Caroline to allow her to share her thoughts on summer trends in this multi-million euro industry. We ladies spend an awful lot of our hard earned cash on products so I thought it would be good to hear from one of the best.

She started her career in Brown Thomas in Cork and has worked with renowned cosmetic houses Estee Lauder, Clinique and Benefit. As well as being an award winning make up artist, Caroline is also a qualified beautician. She also trained with the world famous LA Academy.

I asked Caroline to tell us her tips for us Irish gals to make our lives easier.

Caroline tells me that we need to embrace our Irish skin and stop trying to camoflague our beautiful skintone and to fall in love with what we have. Her best example of this (and I thoroughly agree) is Pippa O’Connor who really works the natural look to it’s best and highlights her great features.

According to Caroline the dewy look is a huge trend this summer. Priming your skin is paramount to keeping your make up looking fresh all day. Concealer should always match your skin tone and use a foundation that is suitable for your skin type be it dry, oily or combination.

Eyebrows are a huge part of a look as they frame the face and must at all times be groomed. I guess this makes a lot of sense as a picture always looks better in a frame.

Bright lips are the order of the day with pinks, red and oranges being the most popular. They really finish a look and give us the confidence we need to walk tall. It also changes a look from day to night with a colour change.

Blusher and highlighter finishes a look to perfection and are really important to show off your cheek bones or indeed to give you the look of the perfect cheekbones. Come on, some times we have to fake it…

The greatest tips I got from Caroline is to always apply your make up in natural light, even if it means sitting in a porch as if the light is artificial we tend to go too dark with the bronzer. Another tip was to always use clean brushes (I am guilty of the opposite).

Caroline is able to give great advice and transformed me from someone who would haunt a house to someone who would be invited in.

Until next week,

Stay stylish!
