Orlagh New ProfileSO 2015 is coming to an end and what a year it has been for good and bad reasons.

I have compiled what I think have been the highs and lows.

I know that everyone has his or her own list but this is just mine and what I loved and hated about 2015. Starting with the highs, the top three for me are:

No.3: As a keen rugby supporter one of my highlights was seeing Ireland win the six nations title.

I was thrilled to see it happen, as there was always a worry that with the retirement of Brian O’Driscoll that we wouldn’t do back-to-back titles, but we did and the country rejoiced.

The fact that it came down to the last day of the tournament made it all the sweeter. The World Cup is another story…

No.2: This was a personal highlight; it was at the end of October when I was finally given the all clear from cancer.

It was a long journey but hearing those words uttered from my oncologist made me cry tears of joy.

I still get butterflies when I remember it. Anyone who has ever had a serious illness will completely get where I am coming from.

No.1: The day that Ireland voted for equal marriage rights was a day that I have never been prouder to be Irish.

The love in the air was palpable. The scenes from Dublin Castle were so emotional and the added rainbows to the skyline just made it all the more magical.

With every high comes a low and the lows for me were ones that I am sure would be on many lists

No.3: Once again it is a sporting one and living in Kerry I realise how important football is to young and old.

When Kerry lost the All-Ireland I was much more devastated than I thought I would be, but knowing some of the players and the sacrifices that they make I was so disappointed for them and for their families.

No.2: The horrific news that we all watched in horror from Berkeley is something I will never forget.

It could have been any of us on J1 Visas but it is so horrendous for the families of the victims who perished and for those who have been left with life changing injuries.

The battle continues and I truly wish that there will be some closure for the families as they await the answers from the pending trial,

No.1: Friday 13th November will be a date etched on my brain for all the wrong reasons.

I hate the number 13 and after the attack on one of my favourite cities I hate it even more.

Paris was the victim of co-ordinated terrorist attacks and the world mourned. ISIS killed innocent people and we united in grief with our Parisian family.  It was horrendous and we all felt helpless. Je suis Paris….

So folks there you have it, I am sure that you all have your best and worst of 2015; whatever they may be I wish you all a happy and peaceful 2016.

Make it your year; make it count, as we are not here for a long time…

Until next week,

Happy New Year

Orlagh xx
