Over €1.6m For New Cycleways And Junction Upgrades In Tralee

KERRY will receive €5,644,500 in funding for walking and cycling projects in towns and villages across the county.

Projects in Tralee will receive €1.645m of this funding. These include €1,130,000 for interconnected networks cycleways in town at Bracker O’Regan Road (€850,000), the Town Park (€180,000) and the canal to town (€100,000). Also, €515,000 has been allocated for junction upgrades in the town.

Projects in Killarney, Listowel, Dingle, Killorglin and Kenmare will also receive funds (see full list below). Today’s announcement has been welcomed by Minister for Education Norma Foley and Tralee MD Fianna Fáil Cllr Mikey Sheehy.

“This funding which will have a really positive impact for both attracting tourists and the local community to get out and about in Tralee,” said Cllr Sheehy.

“The amenities listed below in the funding stream are local treasures in the town. I use each of these walks and cycle trails 4 or 5 times a week. The linking of them to our town centre is key and I’m delighted to welcome the announcement.”

Minister Foley said: “I welcome this funding which will continue to make Kerry towns and villages a safe place for walking and cycling. The projects being funded today will make a real difference to rural life and ensure that communities across Kerry are better connected.”
