The Memory Balloon Walk on Ballyheigue Beach on Monday was a huge success.

THE Memory Balloon Walk for Palliative Care was a hugely successful event on Bank Holiday Monday with people attending adhering to socially distancing guidelines. Funds raised on the day were €2,053.85 which will be presented to the Palliative Care Unit.

Event organiser Natasha McCrohan along with her committee members Ann Drury O’Leary, Liz O’Leary and Joe Burkett were blown away by the generosity of the people who attended the Memory Balloon Walk which took place on Ballyheigue Beach.

“Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined how the day would go. The weather was stunning and the atmosphere was amazing. The day was truly heartwarming. It was so beautiful to watch everyone walking along the beach holding their memory Balloon thinking of their loved ones,” said Natasha who organised the event in memory of her father Maurice McCrohan.

Joe added; “I lost my aunt Kitty Walsh to cancer in late 2019 and the Palliative Care unit were so good to our family at such a difficult time that I was thrilled to join Natasha’s fundraising efforts. The event couldn’t have gone better. It was such a lovely way to honour our loved ones and to help raise funds for the Palliative Care unit.”

The event was made all the more special by a truly moving speech from Liz who thanked all those who attended and helped in any way to make the Memory Balloon Walk a success.

Noel Drury who passed away earlier this year was represented by his daughter Ann’s granddaughter, Paige Drury, who sang a song in memory of Noel on the day with her Nan by her side.

The committee would like to thank all those who purchased a memory balloon, to all who attended on the day, those who donated spot prizes and gave donations and finally to main sponsor Alan O’Sullivan.
