FRIDAY was a sad day for staff in Radio Kerry as a popular member of staff finished up at the station.

Journalist Owen O’Shea, who has been bringing the people of Kerry the news for the past two years, is set to take up a new role as Communications Officer with Kerry County Council shortly.

“It’s exciting and challenging after eight years in journalism, so I’m looking forward to it,” Owen told us on Friday evening, at a farewell dinner thrown by workmates at Bella Bia.

Prior to joining Radio Kerry, he spent five years at Kerry’s Eye and found the time to write a book, ‘Heirs To The Kingdom – Kerry’s Political Dynasties’ back in 2011.

It won’t be the last you’ll hear from Owen on Radio Kerry though. Whenever there’s a weather crisis or the Council is contacted about news stories it’s likely to be Owen’s voice you’ll hear on the radio.

Best of luck in the new job!
