GAA stars line out for cancer support charity’s Ring of Kerry Cycle recruitment drive

Kerry GAA stars Diarmuid O’Connor and Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh traded their football boots for bicycles on Wednesday afternoon as they helped local cancer support charity, Recovery Haven Kerry, kickstart their recruitment campaign for this year’s Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle (ROKCC).
Recovery Haven has been chosen as a Tier Two beneficiary of the renowned charity cycle which takes place on July 5th - and are now calling on the public to sign up on their behalf.
The charity was thrilled to accept an invitation from Ballygarry House Hotel owners to use their beautiful location as the backdrop to launch their recruitment drive, with ROKCC PRO Cathal Walshe and GAA stars Diarmuid and Louise taking time out of their busy schedules to lend their support.
Recovery Haven PR & Marketing officer, Marisa Reidy, said that while several people have already signed up to cycle for the charity since registration opened, they really want to spread the word about the charity’s involvement again this year and explain just how much people’ s support means to their service users.
“We are so thrilled that people have already signed up to cycle for Recovery Haven – but it’s really wonderful to see Diarmuid, Louise and Cathal here with us to help us spread the word even further,” she said.
“The main aim of this campaign is to show people that when they sign up to cycle for Recovery Haven, all their fundraising efforts will come directly to us, allowing us to continue to offer free supports to those dealing with cancer.
“The feedback from clients is truly touching and quite emotional - from people saying that Recovery Haven was their light at the end of a very dark tunnel; that we helped them to develop a resilience they never imagined; to someone who described Recovery Haven as their lifeline when they were sinking.
“This is so wonderful to hear, so what we want to stress is that those signing up for the Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle in aid of Recovery Haven are contributing directly to that. It’s our amazing supporters who allow us to make that difference and that is what makes this event so, so special.”
For those interested in signing up for this year’s cycle in aid of Recovery Haven Kerry, all you have to do so is:
Log onto https://www.ringofkerrycycle.ie
Choose 'Register Now'
Click 'Register for Ring of Kerry Charity Fund'
Choose Recovery Haven Kerry from the drop down menu.
And this year, everyone who registers to cycle for us can also set up their own idonate page to raise even more funds for our charity.

Return of the People of UHK Awards: Celebrating Excellence for the Third Year
_________________________________________________________________________________________________

University Hospital Kerry (UHK) is excited to announce the return of the People of UHK Awards for 2024, now in its third year. Once again, we invite the public to nominate deserving members of our UHK staff who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to patient care and service excellence.

Following the tremendous response from the public in previous years, with hundreds of nominations pouring in annually, the Awards have become an integral part of the UHK annual calendar. These awards recognise and celebrate the remarkable contributions made by UHK staff across all departments and disciplines.

Every day, the dedicated UHK team work tirelessly to ensure the well-being and comfort of patients and their families. The Awards provide an opportunity for patients and their loved ones to acknowledge and recognise those individuals and teams who have made a positive impact on their hospital experience.

Last year, thirteen deserving winners were honoured across team and individual categories, each receiving a bespoke UHK trophy and certificate in recognition of their outstanding achievements. Staff members from any department or service within UHK are eligible for nomination, with individuals both front-facing and behind the scenes being recognised for delivering exceptional patient care and assistance.

This year, public nominations can be made in two categories:
-	The Patient Care Awards recognise exceptional care provided by any staff member who significantly contributes to patient well-being.
-	The Service Excellence Awards celebrates the vital contributions of non-clinical support service staff who operate behind-the-scenes.

Mary Fitzgerald, General Manager of UHK, expressed her appreciation for the dedicated staff: "The People of UHK Awards celebrate the individuals and teams who go the extra mile and make a real difference to our patients, families, and colleagues. We are privileged to have such a passionate and dedicated team here at UHK, and we are delighted to have this opportunity to honour and recognise their service through these awards."

The nomination period is now open until May 30th, 2024. We encourage everyone to submit their nominations online at www.uhk.ie/awards. Nominations can also be made via hard copy with Nomination forms available at UHK main reception and via local press.
