Páidí Ó Sé is the subject of RTE’s ‘Legacy’ programme on Tuesday night.

THE story of Páidí Ó Sé takes centre stage on RTE One tonight as the life of the great Ventry man is set to be examined in the last episode of the current series of ‘Legacy’.

The one hour programme, starting at 9.35pm, will look at the life of one of Gaelic football’s all time greats and draws upon the memories of those that knew him best, as they come to terms with his untimely death in December 2012 at the age of 57.

In the 70s and 80s, Páidí amassed eight All-Ireland medals along with five All-Star awards. After calling it a day on the playing pitch he went on to manage Kerry to All-Ireland victories in 1997 and 2000.

He left the Kerry job under a cloud of controversy in 2003, but hit back claiming an unprecedented Leinster title with Westmeath the following year.

It’s quite fitting a programme honouring Páidí’s life is aired in the lead up to the Munster Final and in the wake of Westmeath’s heroics in Croke Park on Sunday, when they dramatically beat neighbours Meath for the first time in the Championship.

Recently, a statue was erected outside Ó Sé’s pub in Ard a Bhóthair, a lasting monument to the memory of a truly great man.
