A MUCH-MISSED former Chairman of Kerins O’Rahillys GAA Club, who played a pivotal role in its development over a 30 year period, will be remembered at an event later this month.

The third annual Kerins O’Rahillys 10k will be run in memory of Pat Healy who passed away almost 10 years ago in April 2007.

On Saturday, club members – including Kerry players David Moran, Barry John Keane, Jack Savage and Cormac Coffey – joined Pat’s wife Lilie and daughter Lillian in launching the event.

Lilie said she was grateful for the kind gesture by the club to remember Pat in such a manner and for their kindness over the past 10 years.

“I will never forget the loyalty and sincerity of the club since the day Pat died to this day. He gave the club 30 years of service from the day we got married,” said Lilie.

The chipped timed run takes place on Sunday, January 29 at 11am.  The route goes from the club up Ballyvelly out the Kerries to Clogherbrien Cross, towards Knockanish and the Spa taking a left to the ‘back Kerries’ and back to the club.

“Hopefully the weather will be kind as it has been for the past couple of years. Maybe  Pat will keep an eye on that for us,” said Peter Nolan, who is part of the organising committee.

All finishers, walkers and runners, will receive a special medal with Pat Healy’s image. There will be refreshments of soup and sandwiches for participants in the clubhouse afterwards.

The cost of the run  is €20 and you can register on Saturday, January 28 from 2pm to 8pm in the clubhouse and on the morning of the run from 9am to10.30am. You can also register online by clicking here
