IF you’ve passed by Austin Stack Park recently you might have noticed a fair bit of scaffolding on the Pavilion.

It’s all part of the ongoing work to improve the facilities at the stadium. The Pavilion is being completely renovated inside, for the first time since 1983. There are new windows installed and insulation work taking place to make it more energy efficient.

It’s the latest step in a plan for the ground which has seen a new pitch, improved floodlights and a new terrace on the Mitchels side, in the past year.

There are plans to put a roof on the Mitchels terrace and to renovate the dressing rooms in the future. The works were partly funded by Tralee businesses contribution to a ticket scheme which raised €250,000 last year.

There is also work mooted for the outside of the stadium in conjunction with Kerry County Council, after Cllr Toireasa Ferris put forward a motion to turn the wall outside into a Hall Of Fame type attraction and to have a GAA memorial erected in the waste land opposite the entrance to the stadium. This   matter is to be discussed between Tralee Municipal District representatives and the Kerry County Board.
