ANOTHER epic weekend of endurance and will power as over 200 Athletes competed in the Kerry Way Ultra competing in the 200km non stop endurance race, in a 40 hour daunting race, traversing the MacGillycuddy’s Reeks, Iveragh Peninsula’s ancient trails, and coastal cliffs. It is Ireland’s longest distance trail Route.
Athletes came from across the globe to experience the gravity of the race, which was awarded 4 points by the prestigious Ultra Trail Du Mont Blanc (UTMB).
The Race Director is Eileen Daly, and together with support crews and volunteers, steered their way around the Iveragh Peninsulas by-roads and butter roads in search for athletes from 6.00am on Friday morning to late on Saturday night.

The racers were GPS tracked on the Kerry Way route, making locating their whereabouts on the Kerry Way more manageable.
There were three races in total – the Kerry Way Ultra – 200km, the Kerry Way UltraLite – from Sneem to Killarney and a new Kerry Way UltraNite – from Waterville to Killarney.
It was Brian Buckley from Cork who raced home in an amazing time of 25hrs: 20mins and 28 Secs, followed by Killarney’s Sean Clifford in a time of 25hrs:56mins:56secs. First Lady home was Aoife Mundow in an amazing time of 30hrs:32mins:24secs.
Winner of the Kerry Way Ultra Night was Dermot Maguire in a time of 11hrs:10mins:30secs and Tralee’s Sarah Enright was First Lady home in a blistering time of 11hrs:55:mins:08secs.
Winner of the Kerry Way UltraLite was Robert Jankowski in 5hrs:56mins:02secs, in the Ladies race it was Lianne Van Dijk in a time of 6hrs:40mins:28secs.
Speaking about the Kerry Way Ultra Marathons, Race Director Eileen Daly commented; “I will never underestimate the determination of the runners, marshals, support crews and volunteers. The kindness of the Kerry Way Landowners and South Kerry Development Partnership. The marathons reached a phenomenal amount of viewers who engaged with our live tracking on the Facebook page. More than 14 countries worldwide were represented . Importantly for us the Kerry Way Ultra Marathon is a non-profit ‘no trace race’, and has earned its title as one of the best endurance races in the world in a short space of time”
