THE weather held and the crowds came for the fourth annual CBS The Green 5k and 3k runs on Sunday on what was another fun event.
With music, bouncy castles and an ice-cream van in situ, there was a real family atmosphere prevalent at the school for the runs which set off at 1pm.
“Numbers were somewhat lower than last year as we were competing with other major events in the locality. Despite that, we were delighted to have over 250 runners and walkers taking part to help make this year’s run a success. The feel good atmosphere was once again palpable at this successful community event. Organisers Karen Tobin and Helen Kelliher were pleased with the occasion,” said a spokesperson for the school.
The 5K proved to be the more popular choice this year with Tommy O’ Brien of An Riocht storming home to take first place. Hot on his heels was David Kennedy (2nd) and Stephen Reidy (3rd).
In the female category, rising star Niamh O’Mahony took the title, despite having tired legs from Cross Country glory that morning, followed by Sharon Cahill (2nd) and Anne Kelliher (3rd).
Cathal Concagh of CBS, The Green took first prize in the 3K while Meah Carmody cruised home earning a debut win.
Overall, there were 30 trophies awarded at the prize giving ceremony and, along with a lavish spread of post-race refreshments, all participants departed from CBS, The Green well satisfied.
The Tommy Markham cup made its annual appearance, closely guarded by CBS students and Kerry Minor players Sean Quilter, Devon Burns and Paudie White. Paul Walsh, who was named Minor player of the year for 2018 in Dublin the night before made an appearance along with Stefan Okunbor, U20 Munster player of the year. Scroll down for photos…
