THE rain cleared up and stayed dry for the hundreds of people who set off on a 6k walk from Tralee Bay Wetlands on Saturday morning.
The walk, organised by Kerry Recreation and Sports Partnership with Sport Ireland and Healthy Ireland, was held in tandem with RTE’s ‘Operation Transformation’ walks around the country and it was a great family event.
Minster of State for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Brendan Griffin, was among the participants who set off to walk the canal before coming back for refreshments with many enjoying a healthy lunch in Tralee Bay Wetlands afterwards.

“It was fantastic that we had such a great turnout. We had 300 plus taking part of all ages and abilities to kickstart the new year. We thought we’d be rained out yesterday but the weather stayed dry,” said Córa Carrigg, Co-ordinator with Kerry Recreation and Sports Partnership.
“We also had the Park Runs taking pace this morning in Tralee, Listowel and Killarney facilitating walkers as well as runners. If you have a new year resolution to increase your fitness then the Park Runs is available for you every Saturday,” said Cora.
Cora stressed that the success of the event was possible thanks to the core team of volunteers from the walk leaders, people at registration, first aiders, civil defence as well as Kerry County Council and Tralee Bay Wetlands. Scroll down for photos…
