THERE was a fine turnout at Tralee Library on Tuesday evening for the opening of a wonderful exhibition which brings literature to life on the canvass.
The ladies and gents of Tralee Art Group set themselves a task of creating works inspired by all kinds of books.
The result was some beautiful and thought-provoking paintings inspired by everything from ’50 Shades Of Gray’ to ‘The Old Man And The Sea’.

The group had been very busy over the past few months preparing for the event which is really interesting for art and literature lovers. One artist even made his painting into a mystery, asking the viewer to identify the name of the inspiration.
Paudie Lynch’s painting of a religious man writing on a scroll with the heading ‘Round Midnight’, while a copy of Time magazine lies nearby, will have some scratching their heads.
Opening the exhibition, Mayor of Tralee, Norma Foley, said it shows the incredible talent possessed by the members. She said she was charmed by everything to do with it and that the paintings breathed new life into some iconic works of literature.
Mayor Foley said “each one is a credit to their vision, precision and eye for detail”. The exhibition of new works — which are also for sale — based on the theme ‘Art Inspired by Literature’ will run at the Tralee Library until September 30. Scroll down for photos…
