WHAT a fantastic afternoon, evening and night it was in the Ballygarry House Hotel yesterday for the Austin Stacks GAA corporate lunch fundraiser.
There was wall to wall GAA legends among the 550 people present who gathered to celebrate the Rock club’s success in 2014.
Companies and clubs from all over the town took tables at the event, where Eoin McDevitt of RTE’s ‘Second Captains’ fame proved an excellent MC.

Among the GAA legends attending were Mick O’Dwyer, Ger Power, Sean Walsh, Eoin Liston, Ogie Moran, Dinny Allen, Billy Morgan, John O’Keeffe and current stars Kieran Donaghy, Tommy Walsh and David Moran, to name but a few.
The highlight of the night was when Kieran Donaghy was interviewed on stage and Joe Brolly made a surprise appearance. There was great rapport between the two about that post All-Ireland interview, much to the amusement of the crowd (click here for story).
The club’s Vice-Chairman Liam Lynch, Chairman Aidan O’Connor and senior boss Stephen Stack thanked everyone for their support on the day, as did Kieran Donaghy who appreciated the attendance of John Mitchels and Kerins O’Rahilly’s club people whom, he said (with tongue firmly in cheek, we suspect), “deep down, were rooting for us this year”.
There was also an All-Star panel discussion with Tomás Ó Sé, Mick Galwey, Ger Power, Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh, Eoin Liston and Joe Brolly on the game and after the discussions and craic continued into the night.
A fantastic day before the serious business begins again for the black and amber on February 15.
