IT was a gruelling but satisfying morning/afternoon for about 250 brave souls who took a unique challenge on Saturday morning.
The ‘B-Wildered – The John Lenihan Wilderness Challenge’, sponsored by Lee Strand, with proceeds going to Ballymacelligott GAA Club, took place from 11am at Glanageenty, and it was deemed a very successful inaugural event.
The rain, thankfully, stayed away as participants made their way round a picturesque course of magnificent views, rugged hills, waterfall and historical ruins.

The 7km course – with both manmade and natural obstacles along the way – was designed by running legend John Lenihan in conjunction with Joe O’Connor, Nisus Fitness, and it really tested the participants, many of whom looked exhausted when they crossed the finishing line.
“They started leaving in waves from 11am and the first finisher came home after about 50 minutes,” said Teresa Higgins Walker of Lee Strand. “It wasn’t a race, more of an endurance. The challenge was to cross the finish line. It was a great day and everyone enjoyed it,” said Teresa.
Everyone who finished received a B-Wildered finisher’s mug, medal and goody bag and got hosed down by John Keane after finishing.
There was refreshments and a post-party with entertainment to enjoy after the hard work.
