THE ballroom at Ballygarry House Hotel resounded to the mellifluous tones of the Presentation Castleisland School Choir on Thursday evening for the launch of their CD.
Staff, pupils and family members enjoyed a lovely evening of music from a choir which has garnered quite a reputation in their short lifetime.
“The choir is together for just the past five years, so some of the girls have been involved from the beginning,” said Principal Katherina Broderick.

“There’s 65 girls involved at the moment, from first year up to Leaving Cert and there’s huge interest in it at the school. They practise every Monday evening after school and have been invited to so many events, including singing for Pope Francis last year. They perform at local events and visit the palliative care unit at UHK and the day care centre in Castleisland at Christmas,” she added.
Ms Ailish O’Connor, the music and religious education teacher, has worked with the students from the start and was commended by the Principal for her efforts and expertise.
The choir was joined on the night by the Killorglin Men’s Social Club Choir, Noirín Ní Riain and Nicky and Anne McAuliffe.
Music on the CD includes versions of Coldplay’s ‘Fix You’, Keane’s ‘Somewhere Only We Know’, ‘You Raise Me Up’, ‘Ave Maria’ and many more. To buy the CD at €10, contact the school on (066) 714 1178. Scroll down for photos…
