The Kerry Badminton Association held their annual awards night on Saturday night last and this year it was held in The Rose Hotel, Tralee.

Just short of 125 patrons attended and what a gala, fulfilling night it proved to be with all clubs from the county represented.

The Rose Hotel management and staff certainly spared no effort or expense to make this night the undoubted success it was.

The Kerry Badminton Association’s President, Mr Johnny Brosnan of the Kingdom Club of Castleisland was the ebullient master of ceremonies on the night and he spoke of the importance of such an event to honour all those players who  had captured County Championships titles and County  league titles over the 2017-2018 badminton season.

Mr. Brosnan remarked that the GAA  had their All Stars and this night is, indeed, an All Star night for all the followers of Kerry Badminton.

Mr Brosnan also spoke  so elegantly on his opinion on how important such a social  is to a County Association  where players who were on opposing sides of the net on a long hard campaign can on this night meet up in a sociable occasion and can have a chat, a drink or a dance together and completely forget about the on court activities of the season just ended.

Mr. Brosnan paid tribute to the Iveragh Club who were hosts for this year’s event and especially to Mike Reardon and his cohort of helpers who had done such a super job to co-ordinate the night.

One of the eagerly awaited events of the Kerry Badminton  Social is the announcement of the Chairman’s Special Merit Award for the season gone by and this year’s winner  announced  by Mr Brosnan was Mrs Carmel Hudson of the Moyvane Club, who is the current juvenile secretary of the Kerry Badminton Association and who over the years has been a tireless worker and campaigner for both  the Club and County cause. The 2019 Social will be organised by the Annascaul Badminton Club.
