SINCE beginning work on the Mitchels Regeneration Project in 2008, Kerry County Council has overseen huge changes in the area.

Catching the eye in recent weeks has been the two houses that are nearing completion at the entrance to Mitchels Road across from the grotto.

It is hoped new tenants will be in these two houses within the next month, one of which is equipped to cater for a person with a disability.

The council purchased number 28 Urban Terrace because they wanted to have an entrance building to the regeneration area on Mitchels Road.

The structure contains a two bedroom house which was the old house on Urban Terrace. The other, is a four bedroom house for a person with special needs with underfloor heating.

Work is progressing nicely on the entire regeneration project and hopes are high it will be complete in a few years. From the Aras An Phobail building 11 houses will be built in a crescent-shape ending at the entrance of Mitchels road.

On the interconnected road, where the old Mitchels Cresent houses once stood, 19 units will be built with an emphasis on providing homes for people with special needs, the elderly and young couples.

Plans are also afoot to build a boxing club, community facilities and some small enterprise units. The council hope to have all of this work completed in the next two years.
