CHILDREN in Ardfert have been taking their first steps into the world of business with some innovative ideas at the school.

Pupils from Mrs. Sheehan’s Sixth Class in Ardfert NS took part in the Junior Entrepreneur Programme and have been working very hard since December, setting up their mini company.

Their chosen project was to design and sell a selection of reusable aluminium water bottles, a quiz book and ‘dreamcatchers’.

“The children are very passionate about highlighting the problem that single use plastic bottles cause for our environment and hope that the aluminium bottles will provide a more environmentally friendly alternative for all in our school community,” said Mrs Sheehan.

“As they journeyed through the programme the children learned a lot about entrepreneurship and running a business. They worked in teams, with each team focusing on a particular aspect of the business. The teams included finance, design and production, marketing, sales and storytelling. They had their finished products on sale at their ‘Showcase Day’ in the school on Wednesday March 13,” she said.

The variety of bottles, quiz books and dream catchers on sale were the main topic of conversation around the school, and their show stopping display and presentation, created a fantastic atmosphere for all to enjoy. Scroll down for photos…
