THERE was a good turnout for the opening of an exhibition of new work by a local artist last night.

‘Unearthing Place’, by Roisín McGuigan opened at the Craft Makers centre on Ashe Street and will run upstairs at the premises until November 12.

Friends and fellow artists enjoyed wine and nibbles while they viewed the work which evokes territories and places which are unknown yet familiar.

Drawing from the boundaries of landscape and referencing topographic representations, the work encourages the viewer to personalise these places through a fundamental instinct to recognise and belong.
