TWELVE teams took part with 18 qualifying matches and three finals played at the annual Lee Strand Milk/Denis O’Connor/Austin Stacks Football Tournament at Connolly Park on Saturday.

Heavy downpours and thunder and lightning did not interfere with the progress of the day’s games, with Mike Lynch and his hardworking team of volunteers had everything well organised with nothing left to chance.

The teams taking part were Austin Stacks; Na Gaeil; Churchill; Kerins O’Rahillys/St. Pats; An Ghaeltacht; Nemo Rangers; Clontarf; Stradbally; Oranmore/Maree; Salthill/Knocknacarra; Ennistymon; Ballyboden/St. Endas.

The Lee Strand Cup was contested on the main pitch between Oranmore/Maree of Galway and Clontarf.

This proved to be a ding-dong affair and there was only a kick of a ball in it at the end, with victory going to the Dublin outfit on a scoreline of 2-5 to 2-4 (having led at half time 1-2 to 2 points.) Clontarf won the Lee Strand Cup when the competition was last held in 2019 at Under 13.

James Sugrue, representing Lee Strand Milk, presented the Cup to Clontarf captain, Luke Power.  Paul and Denis Jnr. O’Connor (sons of the late Denis O’Connor) presented the Man of the Match and Player of the Tournament Trophies.

Denis presented the Man of the Match award to Clontarf player, Daniel Rush and Paul presented the James Hobbert trophy for Player of the Tournament to Clontarf’s David Barr.  Both Clontarf and Oranmore/Maree players were presented with finalists medals.
