IT’S been a very good year for Ballyduff GAA.
The men from north Kerry claimed their 25th Kerry SHC title in October when they beat Lixnaw at the second time of asking, thus moving ahead of great rivals Kilmoyley in the county’s pecking order.
It’s a cause for celebration so around 200 of the club faithful travelled into The Rose Hotel in Tralee for their victory social where there was a fair amount of silverware on show.
We asked Chairman of the club, Liam Ross, about what kind of the year it’s been and he began with a knowing understatement.
“It’s been a good one. At the start of the year we were struggling to field a team, between injuries and fellas retiring. When we started getting things going then towards April and May, lads were back training and fellas came back from America for the summer.

That boosted the team and we ended up winning our 25th County Championship, the County League, the North Kerry Championship. Unfortunately we were beaten by Kanturk later in the Munster Intermediate, but we’re very proud of the lads, they’re a great bunch of lads.”
Of course it’s not all hurling in Ballyduff and the footballers distinguished themselves on the field.
“The footballers got into the North Kerry Final but were beaten by a better Ballydonoghue side on the day. They won Division 2 of the North Kerry League,” said Liam.
And the future is looking good too.
“Our underage is very strong and we have a lot of players in both codes. We were able to field minor and Under 21 teams in hurling this year as opposed to the last couple of years where we struggled to do so,” he added.
It was a great occasion with a delicious meal, music from Heart and Soul many presentations to players and much talk no doubt about how 2018 can be equally as good for Ballyduff GAA. Scroll down for loads of photos from the night…
