PHOTOS: Bishop Visits CBS Tralee To Prepare For Catholic Schools Week

CATHOLIC Schools Week is running this week until Sunday and provides an opportunity to reflect on how Catholic schools contribute to education.

This year, the theme for Catholic Schools Week is; ‘Living in Harmony with God’s Creation.’   The Diocese of Kerry prepared for this week through an engagement with a number of schools in the county.  Bishop Ray Browne went to three post-primary schools in Tralee, Castleisland and Killorglin last week

On Wednesday January 22 he visited the CBS the Green in Tralee accompanied by Tomás Kenny, Post-Primary Diocesan Advisor for Religious Education.

There was a warm welcome to Bishop Ray Browne from CBS,  with Principal Anne O’Callaghan welcoming him with a student guard of honour to begin the ceremony.

The student council was also present to welcome and chat to Bishop Browne on arrival.  The service of prayer was led by the first year students at the school with music and singing provided by a mix of senior and junior students.

The music provided was a mix of traditional Irish, pop and there was even music delivered on saxophone.  The students paid tribute to Donal Walsh, a past pupil of the school, highlighting his legacy in bringing about an awareness of Mental Health among young people.

Bishop Browne highlighted the issues facing our environment and urged the students to do their part. Bishop Browne and the diocesan pastoral team thanked all three schools for their welcome and preparation for the services and for the continued support to Religious Education and Faith Formation in our Catholic Schools.
